Senior Underwriter

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Underwriter. 

We are looking for an experienced underwriting professional who enjoys problem analysis and providing excellent service to our insureds. 

Position Summary: 
The Senior Underwriter is responsible for selecting and pricing of risk for policy holders and potential insureds. This includes reviewing customer needs and applying policy knowledge, rating programs, and endorsements to provide coverage at the appropriate price. 

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinates and performs technical underwriting tasks, which includes approving and declining applications, loss analysis, and application research
  • Administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and rating rules manual
  • Supports the Underwriting Department management programs and policies
  • Participates in projects and client visits as necessary 
  • Mentors and provides training to less experienced underwriting personnel
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Six years of related work experience in medical professional or casualty insurance with a history of increasing underwriting responsibility and authority
  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge of underwriting principles, techniques, filing regulations and guidelines
  • Excellent planning and organization, time management and prioritization skills
  • Strong analytical and attention to detail skills
  • Ability to work independently 
  • Strong commitment to customer service, quality, and working in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated technical ability to work with Microsoft Office and other systems
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU),  and/or Associate Risk Management (ARM), and/or INS 21, 22, and 23, and/or Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) is desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree in health, business, administration, liberal arts, or a related field
  • Ability to lift or move up to 40 pounds
